Career paths for research managers and administrators are usually diverse and involve a lot of twists and turns! It’s an exciting feature of our professional community that our backgrounds and experience are usually so diverse, something that comes in handy given how dynamic the landscape can be that we work in and how agile we need to be to respond to new challenges and opportunities. New professional opportunities in RMA result from changing sector and institutional needs, for example we’re seeing more roles introduced to support research culture, and equality, diversity and inclusion, and the KEF and KEC are also leading to new opportunities which are leading to colleagues moving into new roles or seeing responsibilities change.

This fast changing landscape can make it challenging to consider professional development and career trajectory, and it can be hard to navigate the professional opportunities that we’re faced with. This is something we’re seeing in ARMA, where demands for our mentoring scheme are growing each year, with the key demand for support focussing on career development and “next steps” for RMA colleagues.

This online webinar will involve a diverse panel of RMA colleagues from across the UK and different areas of RMA, who will talk openly about their own experiences and professional journeys, offering insight into how they have found themselves in the RMA positions that they currently hold. They’ll touch on challenges they faced, key decision points, things that they found to be key to their own development, and things that helped them in their progression, as well as reflecting on plans for the future. Once the panel have each presented, there will be plenty of time for a Q&A where you’ll get the opportunity to put forward your own queries and get some feedback.
