ARMA launches research information and systems special interest group

We are pleased to announce the creation of a new special interest group (SIG) focused on research information and systems.

The Research Information and Systems SIG has been established to provide a dedicated forum for professionals working with research management systems, including Current Research Information Systems (CRIS), grant management platforms, institutional repositories, ethics systems, impact tracking tools, and research analytics platforms. It aims to foster the sharing of best practices in the procurement, implementation, management, and optimisation of research management systems.

The SIG is open to all ARMA members with an interest in research management systems. With a  growing recognition of the critical role research systems play in underpinning institutional decision-making, research performance monitoring, and regulatory compliance. It will cater to ARMA members responsible for research intelligence, systems implementation, and policy development, offering a space to exchange insights, share experiences, and develop sector-wide solutions.

Steering the activities of the SIG will be its SIG Champions: Tamsin Burland (Jisc), Jason Milburn (University of Southampton), Sam Ritchie (University of Stirling) and Kim Storey (Queen’s University Belfast).

The SIG Champions said, ‘With systems and especially data becoming an increasingly important part of everyone’s role, it’s now crucial that organisations establish best practice to ensure they are effectively leveraging the research systems and wealth of data provided by them. The ARMA Research Systems and Information SIG will be a safe space for staff at all skills levels to interact, sense check and share knowledge.’

ARMA SIGs provide a collaborative platform for members to connect, tackle challenges, share good practice. They offer a supportive structure, for both those members working within the specialism and for those who want to increase their knowledge. The Research Information & Systems SIG champions will work together to plan and deliver 2-3 information-sharing events each calendar year, as well as curating SIG resources on the ARMA website and facilitating discussions on the SIG JiscMail list.
