Executive Office

ARMA’s Executive Office is responsible for the implementation of the Association strategy. The small but well-formed team has been put in place to make sure that our members get the most from being a part of our community. Skills within the team range from communications and events to financial management and qualifications support, and we’re always delighted to help answer your questions.

Hamish Macandrew

Chief Operating Officer

Hamish has been a member of ARMA for some years and, between August 2015 and July 2017, a Board Member as well as Acting Treasurer for some of that time.

Until May 2017, Hamish led the University of Edinburgh’s Research Support Office, which he did for 11 years. He has, though, been involved in research administration and management at Edinburgh for most of his career. He has a particular interest in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences research funding, having laid the foundations for the research support, knowledge exchange and commercialisation support services in these subject areas at Edinburgh in the late 90’s and early noughties. He has also led and been involved in a number of working parties and consultation bodies for research funders and other universities.

In his spare time, Hamish is a freelance consultant, a keen gardener, and a Trustee of the Scottish Seabird Centre, a wildlife and education charity at North Berwick.

You can contact Hamish on email at hamish.macandrew@arma.ac.uk or on 0131 357 9852. You can find out more about Hamish on LinkedIn.

Jo Somerville

Senior Administrator

As Senior Administrator, Jo looks after ARMA’s Accounts, HR, Health & Safety, Payroll and Membership Services, as well as pitching in where necessary working as part of a small team; a wide range of responsibilities and therefore no two days are ever the same!  Jo’s spent her career working in various Finance departments with a broad spectrum of responsibilities, most recently managing teams looking after the billing, financial administration and reconciliation of large key accounts.

In her spare time, Jo enjoys reading and walks in the countryside, preferably with a nice café at the end!  She shares her home with her husband and dog Fudge – who most definitely rules the roost.

Nicole van der Westhuyzen (currently on maternity leave, returning April 2019)

Administrator

Nicole has recently relocated to Edinburgh from Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Leading off from that, the weather is definitely not as bad as she expected. All in all, she is loving Edinburgh and is looking forward to doing some travelling and seeing the rest of the UK.

Nicole has a degree in Psychology, but her career so far has taken her in a variety of directions. She loves reading, travelling, taking photographs and being out in nature.
