North East
The North East Regional Group was established to provide a platform for ARMA members based within the North East region to connect, address challenges and share good practice.
Membership in the Group is open to all ARMA members living or working in the North East region, encompassing colleagues across all professional levels, institutional types, and areas of specialism.

Lisa Beattie, Head of Strategic Funding, Teesside University
Lisa Beattie is Head of Strategic Funding at Teesside University, where she leads institution‑wide strategic funding development across research, innovation and knowledge exchange. She has worked in higher education for nearly three years, following over a decade in the skills and economic development sector supporting employer‑led workforce development, economic growth and regeneration initiatives. Lisa holds a law degree and brings an analytical, policy‑focused perspective to her strategic funding work, leading both pre‑ and post‑award teams across the University’s funding portfolio. She is an active member of ARMA and one of the champions establishing the new ARMA North East Regional Group, committed to strengthening connectivity across the region and supporting colleagues to navigate an evolving funding landscape.
Dr Beth Davidson, Research Funding Development Manager, Newcastle University
Dr Beth Davidson is a Research Funding Development Manager at Newcastle University where she supports the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences as well as cross-university initiatives. She has been worked in the research funding development team since 2021. With an academic background in History (U.S. Economic Foreign Policy), she is particularly passionate about showcasing the value of the Arts & Humanities and particularly enjoys facilitating discussion that leads to new and exciting collaborations across disciplines. Beth is an active member of ARMA, currently serving as one of the founding champions for the new ARMA North East Regional Group.
Dr Gemma Metcalfe, Senior Research Development Manager, Durham University
Gemma Metcalfe works as a Senior Research Development Manager at Durham University, where she is responsible for supporting research development across the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Department of Biosciences. She has worked in research management since 2015 and has held three roles during her eleven years at Durham. Gemma holds a PhD in Sociology from Newcastle University. She is an active member of ARMA, currently serving on Member Engagement Committee, and is a former member of ARMA’s Training and Development Working Group, as well as a former ARMA mentor and mentee.
