The Ethics and Governance SIG is a collaborative peer exchange network covering all aspects of Research Ethics, Governance and Integrity. We encourage discussion and challenging norms whilst promoting the sharing of knowledge and best practice.

Jacqueline Green Research Governance Officer, Research & Innovation Office, Loughborough University
Jackie is currently the Research Governance Officer in the Research and Innovation Office at Loughborough University. She has considerable experience in research administration through a variety of roles. She currently works in the area of research ethics, integrity and governance. She is responsible for the University’s ethics review processes and acts as a contact for ethics and integrity inquiries.
Joanne Thornhill Head of Clinical Trials and Research Governance, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and Derby CTSU
Jo currently works as Head of Clinical Trials and Research Governance at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and Derby CTSU, and has over 10 years experience in NHS R&D spanning 3 different NHS organisations. After her first experience of research whilst undertaking an MSc in Health Psychology from the University of Westminster, she became interested in the process and experience of those conducting research in the NHS.
Jo’s experience spans oversight of sponsored, hosted and CTU managed studies, facilitating efficient set-up and delivery of trials, ensuring timely accrual and the collection of high quality data and samples. Jo has worked on studies from conception to close out and publication and is committed to ensuring the highest standards for health and social care research are adhered to.
Jo has experience of working with a range of researchers and investigators, from students to established Researchers eminent in their fields, supporting with grant applications, helping develop ideas, define methodologies and cost studies.
Alongside her role at UHDB Jo is also a Lay member of an NHS Research Ethics Committee.
Tegan Coleman, Senior Research Ethics and Governance Officer, University of Kent
Tegan is the Senior Research Ethics and Governance Officer, the most senior professional services staff with direct responsibility for research ethics at the University of Kent. Her responsibilities include the policies and process for internal ethical review, research misconduct, external ethics review/sponsorship as well as ethical animal research. Tegan started her career in academic publishing, working within research integrity teams at open access publishers.
Dr Ramona Statache, Research Ethics and Governance Manager, Research & Innovation Directorate, Manchester Metropolitan University
Ramona currently serves as the most senior professional services staff in research ethics and governance at Manchester Metropolitan University. With over a decade of experience, her responsibilities include policies and processes for research ethics and governance, providing reviews (HRA sponsorship, MOD/HMPPS applications, prevent, trusted research), delivering research misconduct processes, and supporting studies in their development, contract and implementation stages. She started her career in civil service as project manager in EU-funded projects before undertaking a PhD in digital economic geography at the University of Aberdeen. Ramona is passionate about continuous improvement, sharing best practices and knowledge, and championing research integrity.
