ARMA Global Majority SIG Drop-In Session: Remembering and Honouring in Our Grief

Event Details

“During my time in academia, I have more often than not felt isolated and marginalised. There had always been a feeling that survival needed to resemble keeping my head below the parapet and ensuring that I did not draw attention towards myself. The feelings that accompany these experiences ultimately result in a disposition that ‘I do not belong here’ or ‘I am not good enough to be here’. Often these feelings are compounded by racialised experiences which reassert hegemony, normativity, Whiteness, power and privilege”

Dear Global Majority RMA community,

You are invited to join our Grief Circle, held online on Monday, 28th September 2026.

It has been a difficult summer and we see your pain. Please come and share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a principled space of fellow colleagues who share some understanding of how the recent onslaught of news regarding the tragic death of Professor Jason Arday has affected you.

The Grief Circle is a soft space, informal and kind. We are here to listen and speak without judgement and offer up only as much as anyone is comfortable sharing. As Professor Arday said, “Establishing networks with other ethnic minority colleagues that were encountering similar forms of exclusion and victimisation within professional and academic departments became a source of communal support that was considered to be safe, nurturing and cathartic” (“No One Can See Me Cry”). We are here to support one another, to sorrow and grieve when tragedy rolls in and to reflect and think together as a community.

Just bring yourself and trust that we are with you. There is no need to share if you prefer not to and there will be space to speak if you need. The Grief Circle is responding to one tragedy but inclusive of all grief. We accept all grief equally and hold each other’s grief with the care and sensitivity it deserves.
