This session will explore the implications of Artificial Intelligence and Postgraduate Research. How is your institution dealing with AI in research practice, assessment and applications? How do we ensure our policies remain fit for purpose with an increased pace of change?

We are very pleased that Lawrie Phipps and Verena Weigert from JISC will be joining the session to share their insights into AI and PGR to kick off our discussions.

The session is informal and offers an opportunity to share insights, ask questions and connect with colleagues who understand the complexities of the Postgraduate Research. The session is not recorded to enable everyone to speak freely and have an open discussion.

Lawrie Phipps is Visiting Professor of Digital Leadership at the University of Chester, and Senior Research Lead at Jisc. His recent research explores academic behaviours related to Generative

AI. He has contributed extensively to digital practice and leadership in the UK and internationally, with a strong record of managing national projects and advising on strategy in higher education. With broad experience across Technology Enhanced Learning and leadership, he has helped develop digital leadership programmes at Jisc and across Europe. His work on digital transformation provides him with a thorough understanding of the technical, cultural, pedagogical, and research aspects of modern higher education.

Verena Weigert is a strategy lead in Jisc’s higher education and research team, where she coordinates strategic planning and delivery for a range of research-focused initiatives. She also manages the Jisc Research and Innovation Strategy Forum, collaborating with research leaders to help shape Jisc’s activities in support of the research sector. With a background in digital innovation, Verena has led work on the use of AI to support research processes and to advance open research practices.
