ARMA Research Impact SIG Drop In Session: How we might use generative AI tools to support our professional practice, ethically and effectively.
13 January 2026, 12:00 – 13:00
The Impact SIG is holding a drop-in session, which will discuss how impact professionals and others can use generative AI tools to support impact development, including for the REF. There is much discussion about the opportunities as well as ethical challenges in using AI tools, and a seeming divergence between the very cautious and the bolder. There are also resource distinctions between Universities all facing this issue. We will have short presentations by impact leads from a couple of institutions about the nature of discussion and direction of travel in their institutions. This will be followed by questions from attendees and a broad discussion. The goal of this session is to share experiences and look for good practices.
Contributions
We have two volunteers already, but if you are prepared to contribute some thoughts, especially from smaller institutions, please email the SIG champions: saskia@insightsforimpact.co.uk, c.holloway2@herts.ac.uk and alisha.peart@northumbria.ac.uk.
We are also planning a session to look at nuances of the new REF impact guidelines in February, so plenty of chance for discussions upcoming. Looking forward to seeing you at the session.
