The road to greater equity, diversity and inclusion is paved with many critical conversations.  They can often feel uncomfortable and intimidating, making it challenging to find the words and the way through to better outcomes.  Often it takes not just one but a series of conversations to move the dial.  We know that progress comes from sitting with that discomfort and working through the challenges in a collaborative and inclusive way.  It is not always easy and we do not always get it right but it remains vital that we continue to try.

Our panel will share their experience of raising EDI issues within their organisations, the lessons they have learned around creating safe spaces for critical conversations to take place and the most effective ways they have found to influence better and more equal outcomes across the sector.

This will be an interactive session where panellists will give short introductions, answer questions from participants and the Chair and lead a discussion in a break out session.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

• Understand different approaches for raising EDI issues within your institution;
• Understand how to approach conversations with a view to influencing positive change;
• Understand the factors that influence a safe environment for critical conversations.

Who should come?

Holding space for critical conversations is a foundational skill for anyone involved in EDI, whether as a leader, manager or operational member of a team and this event is open to all who have an interest in driving progress on EDI issues.
