Introduction to the challenge of effective research governance (Online)

Event Details

Research governance is an increasingly complex and difficult challenge in an evolving statutory and regulatory environment. The aim of this workshop is to provide new and / or junior research administration professionals with an introduction to the many facets of research governance, from meeting funder requirements through research ethics and safeguarding to export control and the National Security and Investment Act.

Using a highly interactive workshop format, the facilitated event aims to introduce the key concepts of research governance to a mixed, general audience in a fun and inclusive learning environment. In groups, participants will be asked to identify potential governance pitfalls in what may appear to be benign examples of day-to-day queries forwarded to an institution’s research office. Real world examples will be used to illustrate the potential risks of failure to achieve effective research governance.

Objectives of this training:

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of the many different dimensions of the challenge of achieving and maintaining high standards of research governance in their institution.
  • Have the opportunity to network with other participants to share information about the processes their institution uses to make research governance decisions.
  • Have the opportunity to highlight and celebrate examples of best practice.

Target Audience

This course is aimed at research administration staff either new to the profession or in junior positions and will be suitable for staff from any / all research organisations.
