Event Details

This event is for those who need a working knowledge of Trusted Research (also known as Research Security).

The aim of the workshop is to provide those working in a research environment with a broad overview of key aspects of Trusted Research. This is a relatively new and fast moving area of research management, and attendees will gain an understanding of the key principles as well as sources of further information should they need to dive deeper into any individual element.

By the end of the workshop participants will gain:

  • An understanding of the history of Trusted Research and why it has been introduced
  • The role of various government bodies such as RCAT, ISU, ECJU providing a clear connection between research security and the regulatory frameworks
  • More specific understanding of:
    • Export Controls – How export control works, how you can identify whether a licence is necessary, the different types of licences, and the process for obtaining a licence
    • Due Diligence – How to effectively conduct due diligence on external partners and promote intelligent organisational decisions on the evaluation of partners
    • National Security and Investment Act – The scope of NSI, how the mandatory and voluntary notification schemes work, and when you might want to consider making a voluntary notification
  • Insights from experienced professionals working in trusted research around challenges of the role and overcoming resistance to engagement
  • Where to seek further support and guidance from sector bodies such as HEECA, ARMA, and AULP
