This seminar offers research contracts, research operations, legal, compliance and commercial professionals a view of the key legal updates and legislative changes that will affect the research landscape in 2018.
The speakers all have hands on experience of advising and working with Universities and so are keenly aware of the issues relevant to the research environment and, importantly, will provide practical and commercial advice, solutions and tips to deal with these issues.
By the end of the workshop participants will:
- Understand the impact of the changes in RCUK’s Terms and Conditions and any additional practical requirements.
- Be more confident in negotiating contracts by learning some practical tips to address common areas of dispute.
- Have an insight into and practical understanding of the new GDPR legislation.
- Have some clarity on the potential impact of the Higher Education Research Act and UKRI.
- Understand the implication of legislation such as the Modern Slavery Act.
- Understand the potential changes in relation to intellectual property after Brexit.

This one-day workshop is aimed at research contracts, research operations, legal, compliance and commercial professionals from university schools, faculties, research centres research institutes and central offices.
Prior knowledge required
No specific prior knowledge is required. All participants will gain a good overview of the important considerations of the legal elements of their role and will be equipped with some key tools and practical tips to carry out their role.
