This live panel discussion will take Pinpoint – ARMA’s new policy briefing series – ‘off the page’ and open up the conversation around the topic featured in Issue 1: funder bullying and harassment policies. It will explore further how bullying and harassment fits within wider work on research culture, as well as safeguarding. Like Pinpoint itself, the focus will be about putting policy into practice.

Chloe Jeffries is Head of Strategic Funding, Faculty of Humanities, University of Manchester

– Chloe will summarise the key findings on bullying and harassment from Pinpoint issue 1, and set out the vision for future issues.

Hilary Noone, Faculty Research and Projects Officer, Newcastle University

– Hilary will cover the ARMA Research Culture survey findings relevant to bullying and harassment, as well as a selection of resources.

Noleen Morgan, Global Partnerships Compliance Officer, Queen’s University Belfast

– In the international development arena, bullying and harassment can be considered as falling under the general umbrella of safeguarding. Safeguarding has received increased attention in recent times following allegations of misconduct and abuse in the aid sector. Since 2018 UKCDR in collaboration with some leading funders including UKRI, DFID and Wellcome have been working together to raise standards of behaviour across the research development sector and strengthen our safeguarding practices and compliance processes. Noleen will discuss the outcomes of this work and the impact upon research organisations.

Dr Anne Taylor, Head of Grants Operations, Wellcome Trust

– Anne will cover why Wellcome introduced a bullying and harassment policy, some reflections on navigating the early days after its introduction and where they now need to focus to ensure it supports changes in practice.
