This introduction to Post-Award research grant management workshop aims to provide delegates with specific and practical understanding of post-award grant administration within a university research management environment.

You will also have the opportunity to hear directly from a Research Funder about their perspective on post-award management and from a Research Grant Auditor about what they look for while auditing your projects and what mistakes post-award teams usually make.

The session combines a mixture of delivered content, and activities and also provides an opportunity to network with colleagues from other universities.

By the end of the workshop, participants will: 

• Understand the overall context of post-award administration from both a university and funder context.
• Have had the opportunity to hear from a Research Grant Auditor about what they look for while auditing your projects, types of audit evidence required, what mistakes post-award teams usually make and best practices that can be implemented.
• Have had the opportunity to meet with a Research Funder and understand what their expectations are from the post-award teams in the universities while managing research grants.
• Have a good understanding of the financial administration lifecycle of research accounts from start to finish and have the confidence to apply the knowledge gained in their role.
• Understand the key risks at the post-award stage and how to mitigate these.
• Have had an opportunity to network with peers in similar roles from across the sector.

Target Audience

This is an introductory level course particularly suitable for those who are new to a post-award research administration role, ideally within the first 12 months of your post. Please note this course will not be suitable for experienced post-award administrators.

The course may also be suitable for those who currently work in a pre-award or wider university setting and wish to gain an insight into post-award administration.

Prior Knowledge Required
Participants will benefit from having basic accounts and post-award administration experience in a university environment and an understanding of general financial terms.
