Alex Lewis joined the British Academy as Director of Research in 2023. She leads the delivery of the Academy’s UK and international research portfolio, ensuring the effective distribution of over £50 million in research funding annually as well as overseeing the growth of the Academy’s Early Career Researcher Network. Previously, her career has been in research management working as Director of Research at the University of Surrey and SOAS, University of London. At SOAS she was heavily involved in supporting the decolonising research initiative which sought to apply a decolonial lens to research structures, norms and practices in Higher Education.
