All things Mentoring!

ARMA is launching a call for mentors and mentees for our mentoring scheme, as well as recruiting mentors for our qualifications programme. These are two separate initiatives, which have very different focus areas.

ARMA’s Mentoring Scheme

Following very positive feedback on the mentoring schemes that ran in 2019-20 and 2020-21, we are launching a new round of the mentoring programme for 2021-22. Like last year, we anticipate that the 2021-22 programme will be completely online and that mentor-mentee pairs will interact virtually.

ARMA’s mentoring scheme matches mentors and mentees for a period of 9 months. Those interested in being either a Mentor or Mentee are invited to complete online application forms, and a subset of the Professional Development Committee will then create matches, based on particular areas of interest, development needs and particular circumstances and learning styles.

Those selected will be invited to our Mentoring Induction Day, where mentors and mentees will be introduced to each other and have the opportunity of discussing their needs and requirements as well as receive hints and tips on how to get the most out of a mentoring relationship.

We anticipate that mentor-mentee pairs will be matched in early September and ARMA will host a virtual Induction session for mentors and mentees on 12 October 2021 (10 am – 12 pm). Please hold this date in your diary, as all mentor-mentee pairs will be required to attend. The mentoring relationship would run from October 2021 to the end of June 2022.

Qualification Mentors

This summer, ARMA is also recruiting for its new pool of Qualification mentors. There are some similarities with the ARMA Mentoring scheme. You’ll still be building a relationship with your mentee and offering advice as a critical friend, but as a Qualifications mentor you’ll be specifically guiding them through the units of our Certificate in Research Management (CRM) programme, either at Foundation or Advanced level.

To become a qualification mentor, you do not need to have any prior experience of our qualifications programme. We’ll invite you to an induction session, and give you access to the handbook and unit resources so that you can see what your mentee is working on.

Our next intake of students for our qualifications programme is Nov 2021. Students usually complete between 12-18 months, and often work through the units in the order listed in the handbook. We ask that you are available for this time period to support the student through their study plan. The mentee will drive the relationship and you should allow 2-4 hours mentor time for each of the units.
