ARMA establishes new EDI Book Club

On the back of our soon-to-be published new EDI Policy, we are delighted to launch our new ARMA EDI Book Club. Taking place each month from October onwards, the EDI Book Club will feature regular texts that one way or another have equality, diversity and inclusion as their spine!  Members will have a month to read the text, followed by a virtual evening get together via Zoom to discuss it. 

Our first EDI Book Club meeting will be at 8pm on Tuesday 20^th October. As October is Black History Month, we will be discussing Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo.  She made history as the first Black woman and first Black British person to win the Booker Prize in 2019. “A must-read about modern Britain and womanhood… An impressive, fierce novel about the lives of black British families, their struggles, pains, laughter, longings and loves… Her style is passionate, razor-sharp, brimming with energy and humour. There is never a single moment of dullness in this book and the pace does not allow you to turn away from its momentum.”—Booker Prize judges 

The first meeting will be chaired by ARMA Board member Sapna Marwaha, but it is intended that the chair will circulate for each meeting. The meeting will be via Zoom and run for approximately one hour. 

If you would like to put your name forward for the EDI Book Club, please email enquiries@arma.ac.uk no later than 9am on Friday 25^th September. As there are only 10 places available, we will draw the successful names from the ARMA hat and let you know if you’ve been successful! If we have a lot of interest, we will start further Book Club groups, so please don’t lose heart if your name isn’t called! As a condition of putting your name forward, we do ask you to confirm that you will be available to attend the meeting on Tuesday 20^th October. Members selected will be sent details of the Zoom link in due course.
