ARMA’s Member Engagement Committee (MEC) is establishing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Working Group. The objective of the group is to advance ARMA’s knowledge and understanding of AI as it relates to research management, and to provide recommendations for potential future directions and activities. The working group will gather member views and identify challenges, opportunities and risks, helping to ensure ARMA’s offer in this space is relevant and meets the needs of research management professionals. The AI Working Group is intended to operate on a short-term basis and will not be responsible for implementation of the recommendations.
The working group will be chaired by Anna Aston (Section Manager, Imperial College London), and several members have already been recruited.
We are seeking expressions of interest from individuals across the research management community who are enthusiastic about shaping ARMA’s thinking on the role of AI in research management. To address identified gaps, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with expertise in:
- Research culture
- Legal and policy background
- Members based in Wales and Northern Ireland
- Independent research organisations and other non-HEI settings (including research institutes, independent research organisations, public sector research establishments, Catapult centres, NHS bodies, mission groups, charitable organisations and funders)
We are committed to ensuring the working group is inclusive and reflective of the diversity within our community.
How to express interest
If you are interested in joining the working group, please send your CV (no more than two pages) and a supporting statement (up to 400 words) to nicole@arma.ac.uk.
Your statement should outline your professional background, experience with AI, why you are interested in joining the working group and what you believe you could contribute (skills, experience, and ideas) to the working group.
The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 16 January 2026.
Please note you are not required to be an ARMA member at the time of application, but successful applicants will be required to join ARMA before serving on the working group.
Our commitment to EDI
ARMA is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. It is a strategic priority for us to improve representation within our organisation. We particularly welcome applications from groups who are underrepresented within our community. We are committed to taking active steps within our recruitment process to reduce bias and minimise barriers to application and participation. We are also committed to offering a flexible and inclusive working environment for our employees. We offer a range of adjustments throughout the process to enable full participation. If there is anything further we can do, we encourage you to get in touch.
