    Hi Folks,

I have an academic claiming that some institutes (friends have told them!) are able to turn round a grant agreement (with legal review and authorised signature) within 24 hours of first notification and with zero prior information.

I suspect that this is not true, but it would be helpful if people could confirm the ballpark average time taken for a simple agreement to be processed.

By simple, I mean one where the review highlights no issues and it is simply a case of accepting the agreement – but where the funder is non-standard and not, for example a Research council or well used charity.

I hope that helps, and any comments would be greatly appreciated.

For reference, this process at Bradford would take at least a week, to progress through a legal review of the agreement and then on to signature, as we have to have the agreement signed by a member of senior management (DVC or Head of finances etc).

    Many thanks

    Richard

We aim to get an initial review/draft within five days and the agreement to signature within six weeks. There are cases where we prioritise urgent matters and deal with them much more quickly and even, within 24 hours. However, these cases must be justified (e.g. deadline, strategic partner meeting) and there is always basic due diligence and risk review carried out.

Our timeframes are similar with a response expected to be given within 5 days usually, but responses the same day are only given if there is an actual need. It’s certainly not something we would encourage though.
