Afternoon!

I am starting the Foundation course this October and wanted to say hello. I have been working at Bournemouth University in their research office since December 2015 starting as an administrator and have been working as a post-award officer since July 2016. I cover the Faculty of Science and Technology and manage all reseach contracts and finance with the exception of EU which is managed by a colleague.

I look forward to meeting others who are starting the certificate next months!

I’m at the Research and Knowledge Exchange in the University of Edinburgh’s School of Education and Sport, one of two research support officers who started in June this year, joining manager and data co-ordinator. I came from a small arts/culture organisation background with a lot of engagement and some project and funding work (so I’m still spending quite a lot of time smiling brightly and saying ‘I’ll get back to you on that’, because both HE funding landscape and huge HE institution are both new territory for me). The office currently works mainly on pre-award, although some post-award will be coming our way in the near future; I’m interested in knowledge exchange as well, though that is mainly handled by a College team.

Hi All,

I’ve been working as a Research Administrator in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Liverpool John Moores (LJMU) for 18 months. I help academics to look for funding and follow processes to get costings, guidance, peer review etc. I also do a lot of sign-posting to researcher development opportunities, and keep track of funding applications for the Faculty. 1 day per week of my time is spent on post-award support to an EU Life-funded project which has been really interesting and a good contrast to the rest of my role.

I’m looking forward to getting started on the qualification. I’m the first person to hold my post within the Faculty and I’ve done a lot of learning on the job over the past 18 months – it will be good to start putting my experience into a wider context. Enjoyed the webinar this morning and look forward to chatting with you all soon.

I work at the University of Cambridge, Cancer Research Institute as a Research Grants Administrator. I’ve only been in this role for 5 months so looking forward to learning the theory and hopefully putting it into practice in my day-to-day role. We deal with pre and post-award here so there’s a lot to learn; I’m hoping the course will put a lot of what I do into context and give me a broader understanding of the field.

Hi all,

We are a month in so I thought I’d say hi and share my current thought (I try not to have too many thoughts at once, I’m far too old! )

I’ve started collecting snippets of information on research policy here and there and I am beginning to be intimidated by the size of task in hand. This is the first time I’ve done a course were I do not have a set assignment question to answer so I am feeling a little daunted – is anyone else experiencing this or am I alone?

Hello everyone,

I’ve been a Research Administrator for 2 years now but in the current role at University of Edinburgh (School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences) just over 1 year. I found changing the employing university after my 1st year in the job an eye opening experience. I learnt how different institutions and even schools within them might have different approaches to dealing with research admin and management. It made me realise how much there is still to learn about my profession and, although a little overwhelmed with the format of it, I like a more structured way of learning about different aspects of the job that this course offers.

My introduction is way overdue, I know, but I am looking forward to meeting you all in January and sharing our best practices too 🙂

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all well!

I’ve just switched over from the old Certificate in Research Administration to the CRM – Foundation which is why I’m very late to the conversation.

I’ve been the Senior Operations Officer (Research) for the School of Basic and Medical Biosciences at Kings College London (a mouthful I know) for a year now, which basically entails managing the Schools research portfolio and having oversight of pre and post award operations in the Schools five departments. I started the CRA whilst still in my previous role as a Research Administrator in another Department at Kings but had to put the course on hold for a year because of a Faculty restructure which resulted in my change of post.

I’ve already completed unit one as part of the CRA so I unfortunately wont be at the first workshop but I hope to attend the second on the 23rd and look forward to meeting you all there.
