One of the main pieces of feedback we’ve received about the functionality for the new website is to make a more effective discussion space for our Special Interest Groups. We know that the email lists don’t work for everyone, as there’s just too much traffic dropping into you inboxes, especially if you’re engaged in more than one SIG. So, we’ve built in online discussions groups as part of the member dashboard. We hope that, very quickly, all SIG discussions can move to the web.
To access the new SIG discussion groups, simply:
- Sign in to your member dashboard
- Click on the ‘Network’ tab
- Choose ‘Special Interest Groups’
- Click on ‘SIG Discussion Group’ under the relevant SIG
From there, you can view all the topics already raised and create and post your new topic for discussion. Don’t forget to add tags to your topics, so other members can search for associated content, and click ‘Notify me of follow-up replies’ if you want them to drop into your inbox.
You don’t need to subscribe to the SIGs to follow or add to the discussions, but if you do, you can access the threads via your member account. To do this:
- Click on the ‘subscribe’ button at the top of the relevant SIG discussion group
- Go to your account
- Choose ‘Forums’
- Click on ‘Subscriptions’
You’ll see a list of all the discussion groups you’ve subscribed to, be they SIGs or qualifications networks. Clicking on the name of the group will take you back to the discussion page. Subscribing will also mean that you will receive notifications to your email inboxes about new discussion threads.
Remember to check into your discussion threads on a regular basis, and continue the conversation!
