Members’ views sought on ARMA’s new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy

Pledged in our Strategic Plan

In our Strategic Plan 2018-20, ARMA’s Board pledged to ‘gather and review information on the protected characteristics of our members and use it to inform ARMA activity’ and ‘to promote equality and diversity throughout our governance structures’.

To help deliver these pledges, the Board set up an Equality Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group last year, led by our former Chair, Steph Bales, and we are delighted to announce the launch on 15 July of our draft EDI Policy for consultation amongst our members.

ARMA’s EDI Commitment

ARMA is committed to becoming a more equitable, diverse and inclusive organisation that treats directors, employees, members, and volunteers with dignity and respect and this Policy will inform our values, mission, strategy and portfolio plans, employment practices, communications and activities.

The new Policy

This policy sets out guiding principles on ARMA’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusivity as an employer and a provider of services, events and professional development activities. We define the aim and scope of the Policy and provide a clear articulation of what it is and who is responsible for delivering on it.

“To me, equality, diversity and inclusion is about the ability of all people to thrive economically and personally, and to take advantage of opportunities and career paths that help them reach their goals – whether that is a job, a university place or seat on the Board of Directors. Diversity across organisational structures is essential and provides role models that empower us to meet our potential. I want to see the diversity of our membership base reflected in ARMA’s hierarchy of decision-making bodies, so that all members feel comfortable to contribute.” Steph Bales, Convenor, EDI Advisory Group and Immediate Past Chair.

How to engage with the new Policy

We want you to tell us what you think of our new draft Policy. Does it chime with you as an ARMA member? Does it deliver what you think it should? Email us your thoughts at enquiries@arma.ac.uk between now and 26^th August. We will take all your views into consideration when we create our final draft for endorsement by the Board.

But we also want this to be so much more than just a Policy document. We want EDI to underpin and drive our new Strategic Plan, so that it has a presence in everything that we do, the services and information we provide, the events and activities we organise. What actions would you like to see in our new Strategic Plan to support delivery of our new EDI Policy.
