UK joins Horizon Europe

The UK Government has announced that from today (Thursday 7 September), UK researchers can apply for grants and bid to take part in projects under the Horizon programme, with certainty that the UK will be participating as a fully associated member for the remaining life of the programme to 2027.

Reflecting on the announcement Lorna Wilson, Chair of ARMA, commented “We are delighted to see the announcement today that the UK has associated with Horizon Europe. Having access to the world’s largest international collaborative research programme is critical for the UK’s R&D community, and the benefits that will be seen from this agreement will be significant. We should recognise the huge efforts of colleagues particularly in UKRI who have delivered the UK Funding Guarantee during this period of uncertainty. We also know that colleagues across the sector including our members have lobbied significantly to see association happen, so a big thank you to them, and I know we’ll all be excited to move forward with Horizon in place as a key opportunity for our research community”.

Bikram Singh, ARMA’s EU & International Special Interest Group Champion, highlighted the role that the Group expects to play in “disseminating more information about the changes and potential benefits that may accrue as a result of this announcement”.

Alasdair Cameron, ARMA CEO commented “I’m delighted to see the question regarding association finally answered and look forward to helping the research management community maximise their engagement”.
