News, analysis and advice for UK research professionals

About ARMA Insights

ARMA Insights is the membership magazine for members of ARMA UK, the professional association for research management in the UK.

ARMA Insights, originally called The Protagonist, was first published in Spring 2015 in print format. From 2020, The Protagonist was produced as a digital magazine, published twice a year and made available to members in PDF format.

PinPoint, the sister publication of The Protagonist, was also launched online in 2020 to provide policy briefings and help make new research policies operationally useful.

A review of our publications was conducted in 2023, and the new fully online magazine, ARMA Insights, was launched in February 2024.

Between 2015 and 2023, 18 editions of The Protagonist and PinPoint were published, with contributions from more than 400 colleagues. You can read back issues (PDF) of The Protagonist and PinPoint on the ARMA website (login required).

The publication of ARMA Insights is overseen by the ARMA Editorial Working Group.
