ARMA has recently reconvened its EDI Advisory Group. The Group’s remit is to advise ARMA’s Board, committees, SIGs and communities with the implementation of policies, procedure and practice, to ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion and firmly embedded in ARMA’s culture, values and practices. The Group is chaired by Sophie Collet, ARMA’s deputy chair. We welcomed a number of new members to most recent meeting including Lennie Foster (Loughborough University), Mani Narayanan (Queen’s University Belfast), Jess Johnson (Royal Holloway, University of London) and Lizzie Ranson (Durham University). Julie Northam (AECC University College) has also joined the group but was unable to attend the recent meeting.
At the meeting, the Group took time to reflect on ARMA’s new strategy and the EDI implications of each objective. Equitable access to ARMA’s offerings was seen as an important priority.
The most recent EDI governance survey was reviewed as were plans for EDI training within ARMA’s volunteer community. The Group highlighted the importance of reflection sessions alongside any EDI training.
The role of the Group was discussed and how their recommendations would be communicated to ARMA’s Board. The Group felt it was important that discussions were visible to all ARMA members, and it was agreed that a digest would be published following each meeting, with Group members taking it in turn to provide their perspectives on the discussions.
Any questions regarding the Group or ARMA’s EDI activity should be directed to me.
