Event Details

While there has been a significant number of tools developed on embedding equitability in international research collaboration, there are few training opportunities providing both academics and research support staff with practical knowledge on embedding recommended practices in research projects. Research staff are faced with the administrative burden of responding to proposals, hurriedly in many instances, without expertise or deeper understanding of the context and frameworks guiding the funder’s demands. Additionally, in the context of ongoing discourses on decolonisation and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), there is a rising importance on establishing research collaborations that are fairer and more inclusive.

This event will provide an introduction and new insights into the issues and factors that may impact equitability in UK – Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC) research collaborations and highlight areas in which research support professionals can develop their skills to better support academics in their research funding applications.

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

• Understand how equitability relates to RRI, decolonisation and research impact,
• Learn how to identify and address power imbalances in project design and delivery,
• Learn how to support academics to kickstart & maintain equitability in research collaboration throughout the lifecycle of the research,
• Gain confidence as a champion for equitability in collaborative research in your institution.

 Target audience

The event is especially targeted at operational RMAs who support academics/researchers applying for international research funding calls across disciplines.
