On Thursday 17th September ARMA and ExLibris will be co-hosting a virtual roundtable event aimed at improving our shared understanding of the UKRI R&D Roadmap and sparking a debate on our place in “levelling” up the UK economy through research and innovation, increasing economic opportunity and driving innovation, job creation and productivity.

These events will invite contributions from our expert panel on topics such as: What is our role as professionals at the intersection of turning ideas into economic growth? How can we facilitate collaboration between stakeholders? How can we build a meaningful dialogue with the public and promote responsible research and innovation?

The roundtable is designed to be interactive and attendees will be invited to pose questions and discussion points for the panel before and during the event. If you would like to submit any questions or discussion points in advance, please email these directly to enquiries@arma.ac.uk

The session will be chaired by Sarah Richardson from *Research and our panellists for the event are:

• Alice Porter – Deputy Director of Commercialisation, UKRI.
• John Goddard – Deputy Chair, Civic University Commission.

Panellists:

Jennifer Stergiou is Director of Research and Innovation Service at Northumbria University with responsibility for a wide range of research strategy, policy and support services including research grants and contracts, research systems, research quality and REF, researcher development, research policy, research funding and innovation. She was elected Chair of ARMA on 1st August 2020.

Tamsin Mann is Director of Policy & Communications at PraxisAuril, the UK’s national association for Knowledge Exchange professionals. Her work with members and stakeholders explores the changing expectations of research-business collaboration with the aim of understanding how PraxisAuril can support the needs of the profession now and in the future and inform KE policy and funding to do the same.

Alice Porter is the Deputy Director for Commercialisation at UKRI, directing efforts to harness and exploit research to deliver economic impact for the UK. With a background in biomedical science, Alice has been involved in commercial product and business development in start-ups as well as established organisations.

John Goddard OBE is Emeritus Professor at Newcastle University where he founded and led the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS) and was subsequently Deputy Vice Chancellor with responsibility for city and regional engagement. He was Vice Chair of the Civic University Commission and now also holds the position of Professor of Universities and Cities at Birmingham University
